Sharing Our Songs and Stories: Creative Collaborations Concert
On the 14th June, the Museum partnered with Hilary Norris, the Director of Music at Leominster Priory, to present a concert entitled ‘Creative Collaborations’ which celebrated the work that Ella Mary Leather and Ralph Vaughan Williams did together to collect and record the folk music of Herefordshire. Four wonderful musicians – Julia Bishop – violinist, Hilary Norris – organ and piano, and Lu and Robin – singers from Bushel Bag Carollers, united to present a sensitive and beautifully performed selection of music. There were over a hundred people in the audience. Here are some of their comments afterwards:
- Very enjoyable evening in appropriate surroundings. Performances of the highest quality.
- A brilliantly varied concert put together with great thoughtfulness. All four artists skilfully communicated their contributions, often with great sensitivity.
- I enjoy the liminality between folk music and RVW
- The concert was superb. The variety of musical styles was impressive and the thunderstorm raging during the organ piece before the interval was very atmospheric. Hearing the different versions and interpretations of the same time has given me a new appreciation for folk music.
- I loved it. A wonderful programme- subtle and sensitive. Four great and diverse musicians. Understanding tolerance and kindness shown. Great music
